About Rex

Rescue Rex made his debut in 1993 as a kid-friendly spokesperson for the Metro Nashville Emergency Communications (E-9-1-1) Board. His mission from day one has been to teach kids how and when to call 9-1-1.

Since being introduced into schools, Rescue Rex has helped lower the number of 9-1-1 calls by educating kids and parents on the difference between life threatening and non-life threatening emergencies. Rex has also been directly responsible for some saved lives when kids were able to respond quickly in emergencies thanks to his teaching.

Each year, Rex performs for between 13,000 and 15,000 students and his message reaches thousands more through his coloring book and other public appearances. Every student who sees the Rescue Rex program has the chance to learn a life-saving skill.
